Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
