Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any major awards ceremony nears, you'll find an outcry for the addition fresh award types to recognize overlooked contributions and fill the passions of followers with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Leading game ceremonies presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
